Shipwreck Heritage Press
Exploring history beneath the sea

For the Media

This illustrated book presents more than 6,000 bottles recovered from the SS Republic, a side-wheel steamship lost in an 1865 hurricane. Most were unbroken; some retained corks or original contents despite resting 1,700 feet below the Atlantic.

Their forms and colors capture a rich heritage of goods sold in the mid-1860s: patent medicines, bitters, wine, beer, spirits, food, hair products, beauty aids, and writing inks.
